*Ulysses* is a novel by the Irish writer James Joyce. It was composed between 1914 and 1921 in Trieste (Italy), Zurich (Switzerland), and Paris (France) and published the following year in Paris.
For its detailed descriptions of human physiology, which were then considered unpublishable, the book was censored in several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
*Ulysses* adapts Homer’s *Odyssey*, condensing Odysseus's journey into 24 hours in the life of Leopold Bloom, an advertising agent, set between June 15 and 16, 1904.
