The use of the computer as a working and calculation tool is becoming increasingly important in everyday life, as it allows repeated tasks to be carried out that would otherwise take a long time and potentially introduce human error.
The aim is therefore to introduce programming in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) as a simple calculation tool, making the use of normal spreadsheets (in this case Microsoft Excel) more efficient and versatile, as well as providing an introduction to numerical calculation, normally used to solve problems related to the mechanisms of transport and dispersion of pollutants in the environment.
The choice of the VBA language has the added value of being a language in which the source code interpreters are incorporated with the standard versions of Microsoft Excel and which runs on the most popular and widely used operating system in the world, Microsoft Windows.
It is therefore assumed that access to the tool is not critical, as is the case with other programming languages that require specific compilers. In addition, the syntax of VBA is relatively easy, which makes it possible to learn it quickly, so that the student is able to use it not only in the context of the course, but also when using the computer as an academic and professional tool.
academic and professional work.
