National Education and Teaching Forum discusses progress and challenges in Angola's education system

The First National Education and Teaching Forum, held in Luanda on February 20 and 21, 2025, gathered experts, academics, and government authorities to discuss the challenges and advancements of the Angolan education system.
Under the theme “For an Inclusive, Equitable, and Quality Education,” the event provided a space for reflection on the current state of education in the country and strategies for its improvement.
Participation and Objectives of the Forum
The forum featured 48 speakers and more than 300 participants, including government officials, academics, teachers, researchers, and social partners. The main goal was to identify obstacles to the implementation of UNESCO’s recommendations on Education, aligned with the principles of the new social pact for Education and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as to find solutions for the reformulation of educational policies in Angola.
Interventions and Topics Discussed
During the event, 12 thematic panels were discussed, addressing various areas of the Angolan education system. The Minister of State for Social Affairs, Maria do Rosário Bragança, highlighted the intervention priorities in the National Development Plan (PDN) 2023-2027, including the development of Early Childhood Education, the expansion of Primary and Secondary School networks, the improvement of teaching quality, and the development of a quality assurance system in the education system.
The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Albano Vicente Lopes Ferreira, emphasized the importance of infrastructure and equipment as the foundation for a conducive learning environment for academic success. He also stressed the need to align technical-professional education with vocational perspectives and investments in the economy and industry in each province, aiming to increase national production and diversify the economy.
Closing and Future Perspectives
The forum’s closing remarks were made by Minister Albano Ferreira, who recognized the progress made over the 50 years of independence, such as the increase in enrollment rates and the implementation of new educational policies. However, he pointed out the challenges that still persist, such as the need to improve teaching quality and school infrastructure. The Minister called for the engagement of all involved in the educational process to face these challenges and promote quality education in Angola.
